For hundreds of years, magicians and illusionists have been in the business of cognitively manipulating the one one-hundredth of a second our perception of reality lags behind actual reality. In the grand scheme of things, that seems quite insignificant, but for magicians and illusionists, it is of the utmost importance. Many modern illusionists have become masters of exploring the nuances of perception and awareness, and neuroscientists are beginning to take note. Having said that, what science often omits is the audience's reaction, i.e. laughter or wonder, and how well-versed illusionists are in the art of distraction.
