WLRN Presents "Fahrenheit 451: The Making of a Play"

Behind the Scenes at GABLESTAGE – See What it Takes to Get That Standing Ovation

On Monday, January 28th at 7:00 pm on WLRN Channel 17

How do you adapt a classic work of literature to the stage? And what impact do the performing arts, specifically theater, have on students? The answers are in the riveting sixty minute documentary about the creative process behind live theater, which deals with the entire process of mounting "Fahrenheit 451" at GableStage in Coral Gables.

A production of WLRN, in association with Bold Creations, a South Florida production company headed up by Walter J. Collins -- "Fahrenheit 451: The Making of a Play" will take viewers on a rare behind the scenes look at what it takes to get that standing ovation when the curtain draws at the end of the final scene.  Several cameras capture the relationship between the actors, set and sound designers and the director of the production, Joseph Adler.

GableStage, each season, selects one play which is performed (in addition to their regular audience) for thousands of students from Miami Dade County Public High Schools and Middle Schools.  This program is made possible by the generous support of many individuals, corporations and foundations – including the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Miami-Dade County School Board.

Director/Editor Walter Collins and his crew were given complete access to the entire process.  In addition to behind the scenes footage the program provides interviews with Joseph Adler, the cast and designers – and comments and feedback from students after their viewing of "Fahrenheit 451."  Also interviewed are Katy Sorenson (Miami-Dade County Commissioner), Michael Spring (head of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs) and Lilia Garcia (Miami-Dade County School Board's Division of Life Skills.)

Additionally, 85 year old author Ray Bradbury provides his insight into this classic piece of literature that has defined his career.

"Fahrenheit 451: The Making of a Play" promises to leave its audience with a better understanding of the creative process behind live theater and the cultural impact of this work by Ray Bradbury.

"Fahrenheit 451: The Making of a Play" can be seen on Monday, January 28th at 7:00 pm on WLRN Channel 17.
