GableStage presents the first production of their 2006-2007 Season, the Southeastern Premiere of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, opening October 14th and running through November 19th.

Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature at which books burn.  This timeless play, adapted by the author from his brilliant novel, is about a futuristic civilization where all written word is forbidden and where firefighters are paid to burn books instead of fighting fires.

With Bruce Linser, Kathryn Lee Johnston, Katherine Amadeo, Kevin Reilly, Kameshia Duncan, Harriet Oser, George Schiavone, Greg Schroeder and Bechir Sylvain. Directed by Joseph Adler.

"Mr. Bradbury's account of this insane world, which bears alarming resemblances to our own, is fascinating!"

~New York Times

"You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture.  Just get people to stop reading them."

~Ray Bradbury

"Full of slashes of insight that leave you marveling at the author's prescience.  Reality television, 24-hour cable news, the death of privacy and many other facts of 21st-century life are in evidence."

~New York Times

"Are they burning books in the United States of 2006?  No.  But hostility to new or different or upsetting ideas is still thick in the air, and it's easier than ever today to just flip on the tube, strap on the headphones, pop in the pills and say, 'hey, not my problem'."

~New York Times
