After a laughter-filled hit winter season at the Goldstein Cabaret, FST Improv returns for a special one night only event, April Fools. This hilarious evening will feature an all new format, culminating in the crowning of the "fool of fools."
April Fools begins with pre-show festivities on the Gompertz Theatre party deck at 7:15 PM on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The evening continues with the main event inside the Gompertz Theatre at 8:00 PM.
The ever-popular FST Improv will take audience suggestion to an all new level. The audience will decide the direction of the evening; determining the games the troupe will play and voting for the ultimate prize -- the crowning of the "fool of fools." Each improv member has the opportunity to challenge their fellow cast members to a battle of laughs.
Taking what is right in front of them, in the form of audience suggestions, FST Improv creates characters and sketches on the spot. No one - not even the performers themselves - knows what is going to happen next. It is this element of the unknown that makes every Improv show unique - and what makes for some exciting moments onstage.
Under the direction of FST's resident funny girl Rebecca Langford, who also happens to be the Managing Director of the theatre said, "Improv continues to grow in both audience response and participation. Last year we were thrilled to

add the Improv Festival. We have expanded our training program this year. We normally take the spring off, but this spring has presented us with the opportunity to play in The Gompertz. It's a larger space with more playing area. It's a great chance to get everyone on stage and mix it up. "
The FST Improv cast and competitors include returning cast members Adam Ratner, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Catey Brennan, Darryl Knapp, Angel M. Parker, Chris Friday, Samantha Stern and Jim Prosser on the piano.
FST Improv presents April Fools on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 8:00 PM, with a pre-performance gathering on the Gompertz Theatre outdoor deck at 7:15 PM. Tickets are general admission and are available for $12 per person at FST Box Office in person by phone (941) 366-9000 or online www.FloridaStudioTheatre.org. Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended.
Florida Studio Theatre is grateful to Northern Trust for Co-Producing the 2010 FST Improv Season.
Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its three theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and its newest space, the Gompertz Theatre.
Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
