NEW THEATRE IGNITES THE STAGE WITH

EQUUS BY Peter Shaffer

EQUUS by Tony winning playwright Peter Shaffer comes to New Theatre after its successful 2008 Broadway run. It is the primal and electric story about a 17 year old stable boy and the psychiatrist who seeks to understand the sexual and religious mystery which led the boy to commit an unspeakable and unbelievable act.  Mr. Shaffer was inspired to write Equus after hearing about a crime involving a 17-year-old and set out to construct a fictional account of what might have caused the incident, without knowing any of the details of the crime.

WARNING: The play contains cigarette smoking, adult content and nudity!

Equus is directed by Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, and performed by a cast lead by New Theatre veteran James Samuel Randolph as Martin Dysart and making his New Theatre debut, David Hemphill in the role of Alan Strang.  Joining them as part of the ensemble are New Theatre veterans, Steven Chambers, Ricardo Rodriguez, Vanessa Thompson, Laura Turnbull and making their New Theatre debuts, Linda Bernhard, Josh Foldy, and Melissa Smith.  Returning to New Theatre are Production Stage Manager Dana Hesch, Costume Designer K. Blair Brown, Lighting Designer David Hernandez, Sound Designer Ozzie Quintana and Scenic Designer Nicole Quintana.

Equus is sponsored, in part, by Citizens Interested in Arts and Miami Salon Group.
