Inaugural project in Dramawork's new initiative for plays in development. 

West Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks will present "Dorothy," a new play written and performed by Ginna Carter, for three performances starting  Monday, April 16^th and playing through Wednesday April 18^th ( 8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard).   

The inaugural project in Dramawork's new initiative for presenting plays in development, "Dorothy," re-imagines the well-known character from Kansas in the present day and looks at life for this now grown woman. In "Dorothy," Ginna Carter constructs her own idea of what the young heroine went through after her incredible journey and magical trip to Oz.

In 1900 the original L. Frank Baum book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, launched an avalanche of stories, taking shape as books, movies, plays, and musicals.  From The Wizard of Oz to The Wiz and Wicked, the Oz adventure has been told, retold and reinvented countless times, capturing audiences of all ages.  "Dorothy" takes one more step toward Oz on the familiar path that emerged one hundred years ago. 

Ginna Carter is an actress and a playwright.  A graduate of Harvard/Radcliffe College, Carter went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before moving to Los Angeles where she pursued a successful acting career.  Carter has performed at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington D.C, the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA and was nominated for the Los Angeles Critic' Award in 2001 for her performance in Everyday Life.  As a playwright, Carter has also found success.  Her first play, A Girl Thing, was a winner in The Orange County Playwrights' Alliance 2000 Page to Stage Competition; her second play, Traffic School, was a finalist at the 2002 Washington D.C. Theatre Festival and won Best Production at The Source Theatre National Playwriting Competition.  Dorothy has been seen on several stages including New York, Los Angeles, and Houston.  Currently, Carter is a Masters candidate in the Professional Writing program at USC. 

Palm Beach Dramaworks is a non-profit, professional theatre and is a member of the Theatre Communications Group, the South Florida Theatre League, Florida Professional Theatres Association, Florida Theatre Conference, and the Palm Beach County Cultural Council.  

Performance times are Monday, April 16^th (8PM), Tuesday, April 17^th (8PM) & Wednesday, April 18^th (8PM).  All tickets are $18. The theatre is located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, at 322 Banyan Boulevard, between Dixie Highway and Olive Avenue, Florida 33401.   Parking is offered across the street for a nominal fee, or in the City Garage on the corner of Olive Avenue and Banyan Boulevard for $1.00 per hour with the first hour free!
