A.K.A. Seaside Music Theater's

2006 Summer Season!

Jesus to make appearance in Andrew Lloyd Webber musical! Rain predicted to fall on SMT stage! Frog spotted singing by Halifax River! Headlines from The National Enquirer? Nope! Just a hint at what's to come this summer as Seaside Music Theater opens its 30th Anniversary Season, Summer 2006!

With a lot of heat, a touch of Swing, several bizarre love triangles, a state-of-the-art new stage to perform upon, and a one-eyed alien from the planet Zornon who is having an affair with Britney Spears (just making sure you were paying attention,) you won't be able to take your eyes off SMT's 30th season. Here's a preview of what you'll see:

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
June 8 - 18
The first rock opera. The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The first true superstar. This spectacular Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice collaboration, set in the last seven days of Jesus' life, has become a cultural phenomenon! This HIGH-energy spectacle, called "the freshest and most audacious of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber creations," by The New York Times, has been produced world-wide. But you haven't seen anything until you've seen the Seaside Music Theater premiere of the production, directed by SMT's own Lester Malizia! Get ready to rock! Songs of note: I Don't Know How To Love Him, Jesus Christ Superstar.

SISTERS OF SWING
The Story of the Andrews Sisters
June 15 – July 9
Sisters of Swing tells more than a story about three sisters from Minneapolis who made it big. It tells a story about the American dream. It's wartime, and the Andrews Sisters are making their mark! From the cradle to the grave, follow the funny and heartfelt story of three women who helped define an era. There's Laverne, the "little mother." Maxene, the big mouth who always steps a little outside of the lines. And Patty, lead singer and the youngest of the trio, who simply adores the spotlight…all of the time. Experience their loves, losses, and laughs through all the popular music that made them famous! Songs of note: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Bei Meir Bist Du Schon (Means That You're Grand), Ac-Cen-Tchu-Ate the Positive.

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
June 29 - July 9
Stephen Sondheim's romantic and achingly beautiful ode to love! This breathtaking Tony Award-winning Best Musical takes an intimately close look at a May-September marriage whose partners come to realize that the years that separate them may not be as inconsequential as originally foreseen. Oh, but there are plenty of burning desires and unexpected passions to come for the two…from outside of the marriage bed, that is. Songs of note: Send in the Clowns, The Glamorous Life, You Must Meet My Wife.

THE THREEPENNY OPERA
July 13 – 23
The legendary Mack the Knife comes alive on stage in this masterpiece by Bertholt Brecht and Kurt Weil. Macheath (Mack the Knife) is a leader of thieves. He's got the police well-greased. Women compete for his sexual attention. He's got a wife, a girlfriend, and a passionate connection on the side who also happens to be the daughter of his best friend – the police chief! It's a dark, musical comedy even your husband will love. Think The Sopranos meet Sweeney Todd! Songs of note: Mack the Knife, Pirate Jenny, Cannon Song

SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
August 3 – 23
The classic movie musical that promises to "Make 'em Laugh" jumps on to the stage in a BIG way! Singin' in the Rain will gift the entire family with a production that is danced beautifully and sung like a dream! A special effect-filled extravaganza that screams old Hollywood, this beloved romantic comedy proves that we absolutely can still make them like they used to. Songs of note: Singin' in the Rain, Make'em Laugh, Good Morning.

A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD
May 27 – August 19
Kids will learn that our differences make us stronger when Frog and Toad hop onto SMT's stage just in time for summer vacation! Frog is cheerful. Toad is grumpy. But somehow, through cheerful musical numbers that bubble with wit, the two manage to make it through a year full of seasons as friends till the end! This delightful Tony Award-nominated best musical, based on Arnold Lobel's whimsical stories and called a, "jazzy, perky delight," by the Star Tribune, is sure to become a new family classic! Songs of note: I'm Coming Out of My Shell, Get A Load of Toad, Merry Almost Christmas.

Note: A Year With Frog and Toad is a specially produced musical for children at a reduced ticket price, so it is not included with the Summer 2006 subscription.
