THE ALLIANCE THEATRE LAB PRESENTS ITS OPENING SHOW FOR THE 2007/2008 SEASON

The ALLIANCE THEATRE Lab returns in full swing with its seventh season opener, John Patrick Shanley's romantic tale, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.

From the playwright of such works including Savage in Limbo, An Italian-American Reconciliation and the Pulitzer Prize, Tony winning Doubt, this story set in the Bronx revolves around two people in a bar meeting for the first time. One being a truck driver and the other being a single divorcee taking care of her son, both are adverse to each other due to their own inner demons. During the night, their conversation melts away their reserve, giving into a night of passion that takes them on a journey to find forgiveness and redemption.

Bronx native John Patrick Shanley won the Academy Award for best original screenplay for 1987's Moonstruck featuring Cher and Nicolas Cage. Other screenplays include Congo, Alive and the Tom Hanks starred comedy, Joe Versus the Volcano, which Shanley also directed. Better known for his stage plays, Shanley also penned more familiar works The Big Funk, The Wild Goose, and Psychopathia Sexualis. His opus, Doubt, created a hat trick by winning the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Drama Desk Award and Tony award for Best Play. Doubt is now getting regional premieres at other theatres.

Danny and the Deep Blue Sea has been called by the NY Daily News, "An explosive, deeply affecting study of alienation and the redemptive power of love." The New York Times stated "the play is the equivalent of sitting at ringside watching a prize fight that concludes in a loving embrace."

Danny and the Deep Blue Sea features ALLIANCE THEATRE Lab company member Travis Reiff (Burn This) and local talent Jennifer Toohey (Two Rooms; Promethean Theatre). This production is directed by Adalberto J. Acevedo. Set and lighting design by Scott Borish; Jennipher Murphy takes helm as Production Stage Manager.

Adalberto Acevedo established the ALLIANCE THEATRE Lab in 2001 as the Modern Stage. After three years of successful productions, a hiatus was taken and in 2005, the entity regrouped under the new moniker. The first production was David Mamet's American Buffalo, other critically acclaimed productions included Lonely Planet, Down the Road and the Lab's most successful production to date, Landford Wilson's Burn This.

The Alliance was set up to be a creative home for actors and directors alike to explore their craft. Acevedo states that, "The Alliance should be a place for theatre artists and audiences to come together and confront the issues that affect all our lives. We hope that audiences will come to the theatre with the same enthusiasm and passion that our group brings to the stage."

The ALLIANCE THEATRE Lab production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea opens Thursday, November 29th and runs until Sunday, December 16th , 2007. Showtimes are Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, Sundays at 5pm. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.
