Curtain Call Productions will present a special one weekend only performance of Tony-winner William Finn's hilarious The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Flagler Place in Historic Downtown Stuart from today, January 9th-12th. Spelling Bee chronicles the ups and downs of six adolescent overachievers who are competing for the spelling championship of a lifetime and the not so qualified adults who are struggling to get them through the tournament.

"This show is just so well written," says Artistic Director Jake Sanders. "Only a writer as skilled as William Finn can elicit laughter one moment, tears in the next, and then bring you directly back to laughing so seamlessly." But unlike some of Curtain Call's past shows, there's no need to bring the tissues- "While it has its heartfelt and really honest moments, this show is definitely a comedy and will have you in stitches the whole time."

With direction from Heidi Condon, a professional cast from all over South Florida and a live band, the cast can begin to tackle the most unpredictable part of the show- the ever-changing five audience members who will be joining them on stage each night. "We really get to have a whole lot of fun, bringing the audience onstage, going out into the audience and making them a part of the show," says Director Heidi Condon.

Spelling Bee stars an ensemble cast including Equity Actor Chris Cromer as the hypo-allergenic oddball William Barfee, Colleen Broome as the shy Olive, Xander James as the hormonal returning champion Chip, AriAnna White as Logainne- as politically active as her prominent lisp, Rosseroni Parris as the eccentric Leaf, and Andrea Colletti as the over achieving Marcy opposite Phil Isme as Vice Principle Panch, who develops an unrequited love for Spelling Bee Moderator and Realtor Rona Lisa Peretti, played by Michelle Lucey, and Mariano Garcia IV as the "comfort counselor" Mitch Mahoney, serving out his community service. The show also includes choreography by Elizabeth Casalini.

With a background in improv and stand up comedy performances under his belt at the Sunrise Theatre, cast member Phil Isme is up to the task of creating jokes on the spot. "Spelling Bee is so completely outrageous as a show that really changes every night," says Isme. "My role is almost completely improvised, with so many things changing dependant on the night."

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee runs January 9th-12th at Flagler Place in Historic Downtown Stuart with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2PM at 201 Flagler Avenue, Stuart, FL-34994. The show runs approximately two hours and 15 minutes with a 15-minute intermission.
