Broward County Cultural Division Announces a

Cultural Diversity Program Application Workshop

Offered TWICE on Monday, September 8, 2008, at 2:00 pm AND 6:00 pm at the Broward County Main Library, 6th Floor, Bienes Conference Room

Broward County Commission's Cultural Division announced an application workshop for the Cultural Diversity Program (CDP) for eligible, not-for-profit cultural organizations. The workshop will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008, at 2:00 pm, and again at 6:00 pm, in the Broward County Main Library, Bienes Center Conference Room, 6th Floor, 100 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

The CDP assists not-for-profit cultural organizations based in culturally diverse ethnicities (African, Latin, Asian-Pacific Islander, or Native American descent.) The CDP seeks to preserve cultural heritages and traditions through the arts and to create opportunities for Broward citizens to experience culturally diverse/ethnic-specific cultural programs and events. Organizations such as the Brazilian Voices, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, Inc., TranZenDance Dance Productions Inc., Polynesian Culture Association, Inc., and Jubilee Dance Theatre have received funding through this grant program.

Eligible not-for-profit cultural organizations (whose principal office address, as recorded in the Secretary of State's Office, is in Broward County) must have operated in their respective discipline(s) in Broward County for a minimum of one (1) uninterrupted year immediately preceding the date of application, and provided services in Broward County for a minimum of six (6) months in the preceding year. At least fifty-one percent (51%) of the Board and staff must be comprised of the ethnic group represented by the organization.

Grants awards range from $5,100 to $25,000. This program may award funding on a multi-year basis. By year three, grantee should provide a one-to-one match for the grant funds. The aim of the multi-year grants is to maintain quality culturally diverse programming while assisting the organization in developing its own artistic, management, and financial capacities.

The application deadline is October 15, 2008 for the FY 2010 funding cycle.  RSVP in advance. There is no fee for the workshop and interested persons may register online at www.broward.org/arts and click on ‘workshops;' or call 954-357-7457.
