Craig Lucas' play LOVE & IRONY, winner of the Greenfield Prize, will have readings of his show at the Asolo Repertory Theatre on April 2 and April 3. The readings will be a part of the theaters new play festival "Unplugged" which runs from March 14-April 3.
The prize that Lucas will receive includes a $30,000 commission in order to create a new piece of work, a residency at the Hermitage Artist Retreat, and a production of the play by a professional arts organization. LOVE & IRONY will be read April 2 at 8 PM and April 3 at 2 PM with a moderated talkback after each. In 2001 Lucas received an OBIE Award for his direction of Harry Kondoleon's SAVED OR DESTROYED at the Rattlestick Theater. He won the 2003 New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Screenplay for "The Secret Lives of Dentists." His SMALL TRAGEDY was awarded an Obie as Best American Play in 2004. Lucas's other awards include the Excellence in Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; the PEN/Laura Pels Mid-Career Achievement Award; and Outer Critics Circle, L.A.
