February 10, 11 and 12 -- Byron Carlyle Theater
"Combing Through Life's Tangles" is a hilarious screwball musical
that exposes the audience to their own personal and social fears about
relationships, religion, mental illness, gender identity, immigration and
homelessness.
"Combing Through Life's Tangles" was written by Mario Betto, who also
composed several of the songs, and is making his debut as director. It
includes great oldies such as Tina Turner's "Proud Mary," the Mamas and
the Papas' "California Dreamin'" (in this case Beauty Parlor Dreamin'),
and Neil Diamond's "You Don't Bring Me Flowers."
The plot follows the story of Cori, who is dealing with a gender
identity crisis, and ultimately recognizes his own purpose and value.
Although the setting is in a 70s-style beauty salon (anywhere USA),
clients and employees are forced to deal with social issues of the new
millennium, as they are led through a hysterical set of events that
ultimately transform their hearts.
The cast includes Sherri Moore (Striptease), GLEN (as Cori), singer
Karina Iglesias, and, Linda Reyes, who has performed with the Florida
Grand Opera.
The event runs February 10, 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. at The Byron Carlyle
Theater in Miami Beach, 500- 71st Street. Tickets are $50 VIP
(includes post-show Cast Party) $20 for Adults (Students $15.) A special
performance is scheduled for students on Sunday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m.
The cast will interact with attendees, and have a Q&A with students.
