City Theatre is proud to announce the 2016 National Award for Short Playwriting Contest winner and finalists, who will all be invited to Miami to attend the company's CityWrights Professional Weekend for Playwrights from June 23 - 26, 2016 at the EPIC Hotel.

The City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting furthers City Theatre's mission to identify, acknowledge and award excellence in dramatic writing. This season's winner and finalists were selected from a fierce pool of nearly one thousand talented writers who submitted ten-minute plays to the company for special recognition.
The winning play, Evelyn Shaffer and the Chance of a Lifetime, is currently being produced in City Theatre's annual SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVALplaying now through July 3, 2016 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. Finalists Warped by Chris Critelli/Andy Roninson, Eggs by Jennifer Jasper, F4 by Elin Hampton and Rules of Comedy by Patricia Cotter are also being produced as part of the festival.
Winning playwrights Greg Edwards and Andy Roninson were guaranteed a production in SUMMER SHORTS, earning them a $1,000 cash prize and royalties. All Finalists will receive free tuition to attend City Theatre's CityWrights Professional Weekend for Playwrights and take part in the conference, attend the SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVAL and have readings of their works performed by the City Theatre ensemble of actors. All City Theatre National Award scripts will be submitted to the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival for consideration.
