The Waterfront Playhouse proudly presents "Carmen. The Singer. Not The Opera," a concert evening with Carmen Rodriguez.
This reprise of last year's sold-out concert will be on January 17, 2009 at 8 pm.
The Waterfront will once again be showcasing one of Key West's most beloved singer/entertainers. The gala post-performance party is be sponsored through the generosity of Jimmy Olson and Keith Dempster.
Carmen, a native Key Wester, has performed in virtually every venue in town. Her concert reflects her evolution as a singer/entertainer and features songs from her extensive repertoire of American standards, tunes from the pop genre and songs from her musical theater appearances on all of the stages in Key West.
Joining Ms. Rodriguez onstage are Richard Tazewell on keyboards and Skipper Kripitz on percussion and Geoffry Lowe, a Chicago-based jazz bassist, will be on bass. There are also special appearances by Bobby Nesbitt and Danny Weathers.
Well-known as a versatile performer, Carmen has been on every theatrical stage in Key West. Her musical theater appearances include "Show Tune: the Music of Jerry Herman," "Meshuggah-Nuns," "My Way," "Pump Boys and Dinettes," at the Red Barn. At the Waterfront, she's appeared in "Penny Lane" and this season's opening ENCORE concert. At TWFAC, she played lead roles in "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Little Shop of Horrors." She has appeared each year in the "Bobby In The Lobby" series at TWT, and will soon appear in Bobby's Johnny Mercer tribute with Bruce Moore.
Carmen has been a favorite in many of the local night clubs around town, including Virgilios Jazz Club, the Pier House, the Cuban Club at El Meson de Pepe and Sunset Key. Her sultry vocals are often in demand around town, and she is known for her tireless appearances at various charity benefits in town.
