Caldwell Theatre Announces New "Club Caldwell" Format with Avery Sommers Sept 25, 2010
Caldwell Theatre Company announced an exciting addition to its programming menu with the introduction of Club Caldwell. Caldwell will convert their gorgeous lobby into a café style club, and present an eclectic variety of South Florida's best known talent.
"Last year Caldwell introduced the Broadway Concert Series with the highly acclaimed performances of Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods," said Clive Cholerton Artistic Director. "This year, we're expanding our programming further by incorporating our lobby as a performance space and transforming it into a combination jazz nightclub/black box performance space."
Kicking off the program is none other than Avery Sommers, fresh off her recent Carnegie Hall concert. "When I first conceived of the concept of Club Caldwell, I immediately thought of Avery as her talent is transcendent of musical styles and locales," said Caldwell Theatre's Producing Director Patricia Burdett. "I knew that we needed someone that could be equally at home in a theater as in a jazz club. Clearly we hit a home run with Avery."
Ms. Somers' performance will be followed by Just The Funny, the Miami based improvisational troupe. "This is a performance element that Caldwell has never had an opportunity to produce prior to this time and we couldn't be more pleased with the choice of talent," continued Burdett. "We feel certain that they will introduce a new demographic to Caldwell Theatre that may otherwise not have been exposed to our programming."
The final date of Club Caldwell presently booked is Ann Turnoff, the singer. "Ann's unique artistry brings yet another musical sensibility that prior to this had been neglected at Caldwell. Aside from her impeccable musicality, Ann creates an incredible intimacy in her performance which will lend itself perfectly in our lobby/café lounge," concluded Burdett.
