Broward Cultural Division Holds

Teaching Artists' Showcase

On Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

At ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. In Fort Lauderdale

Broward County Commission's Cultural Division will offer a vendor's showcase for Children's Services Council (CSC) providers, principals, parks and recreation programmers and summer camp directors on Thursday, May 29 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale. Artists from Broward County Cultural Division's online Arts in Education Directory will have informational booths, demonstrating their programming and content areas in an expo-like setting at ArtServe.

The Children's Services Council aims to provide the leadership, advocacy and resources necessary to enhance children's lives and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.  CSC works directly with providers of programs which touch the lives of the most underserved children in the county. Broward Cultural Division provides assistance to arts providers by reviewing artists' credentials, offering continuing education and information through an annual teaching conference, various workshops throughout the year, and by monitoring reviews sent back from CSC providers.

All Children's Services Council providers are invited to attend, as well as private and public school administrators who select talent for in-house field trips. Many of these providers opt for bringing a teaching artist to their children, rather than moving students from their facilities, providing transportation, etc. In-house field trips and performances saves the provider expense, thus allowing them to afford more cultural activities to the students they serve. These providers will have an opportunity to meet and experience teaching artists from Broward County. Members of the Children's Services Council staff will be available as well.
