All Broward County offices are closed Thursday, Sept. 7, until further notice due to Hurricane Irma. The Cultural Division has released some helpful resources to help locals prepare for the storm.
The office hopes everyone is safe and have their plans in place and an emergency preparedness kit available. Don't know what you need? Here are some emergency checklists.
If you have kids in your household or shelter, you can use art as education and entertainment during the storm. Students in grades 9-12 can spend time on their application for the Mayor's Art Challenge and here's a Hurricane Safety Coloring & Activity Book and many more resources and games for kids here.
What to do now:
- Subscribe to AlertBroward for emergency notifications.
- Visit the County's Hurricane portal for everything from Vulnerable Population Registry to recipes during power outages.
- Monitor storm updates via the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Hurricane Center.
Resources for artists and arts organizations:
- ArtsReady, an online emergency preparedness service by and for arts/cultural nonprofits, provides arts organizations with customized business continuity plans for post-crisis sustainability.
- CERF+ is readiness, relief and resilience for studio artists, ensuring that they are as protected as the work they create.
Broward Cultural Division will continue to assist during Hurricane Irma through the start of our new cultural season.
- Email Andy Royston here if your event has been canceled/postponed and needs to be updated on ArtsCalendar.com.
- Also, we will let you know when we have rescheduled the Broward application workshop for SFCC applicants, which was scheduled to take place this Friday.
