KELLEY SHANLEY NAMED PRESIDENT AND CEO

OF THE BROWARD CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Center's long-serving Executive Vice President/General Manager selected for top spot

Kelley Shanley, who has served as executive vice president/general manager of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. since 1999, was named president and chief executive officer of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. He replaces Mark Nerenhausen who announced in December that he would be leaving for a similar post at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.

The announcement was made by M. Austin Forman, board chair of the Performing Arts Center Authority.

"An outstanding team has been built at the Broward Center which has uniquely positioned the Broward Center for a leadership transition," said Forman. "Kelley's selection will ensure a seamless transition, and he will provide an immediate impact given his excellent track record, breadth of knowledge and thorough understanding of the unique demographic and cultural environment of South Florida. His achievements and contributions to the Center's growth over the past decade make him uniquely qualified to lead the Broward Center from strength to strength."

Shanley has more than 20 years of experience in performing arts center management. As executive vice president and general manager of the Broward Center, he has played a vital role in the dynamic growth of the Broward Center and increasing the Center's impact on the local community. With responsibility for programming, operations, marketing, ticketing services and outside venue management, Shanley has helped to drive the Center's strong financial performance and develop new audiences for more than 650 performances a year with annual attendance of more than 700,000. He is an innovative leader and a top-notch communicator, who has been instrumental in the implementation of the Center's strategic platform.

Shanley has worked side-by-side with Nerenhausen in developing many of the initiatives that have defined the Broward Center as one of the leading performing arts centers in the world including the award-winning SEAS (Student Enrichment in the Arts) program which has introduced more than two million local students to the performing arts; the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District which draws one million visitors annually; the opening and management of the new Miramar Cultural Arts Center; the ongoing operations of Parker Playhouse and the Miniaci Performing Arts Center on the campus of Nova Southeastern University; and the growth of the ticketing services division to support external ticketing operations.

"I am truly honored to have been selected as president and CEO of the Broward Center, an organization that has had a significant impact on the South Florida region and plays a key role in building our community," said Shanley. "The programs and initiatives of the Broward Center reach far beyond our walls and have brought about positive awareness of the region nationally and internationally.  I welcome the opportunity to continue to realize this organization's vision in one of the nation's most dynamic communities."

Prior to joining the management team at the Broward Center, Shanley was general manager of the Coral Springs Center for the Arts in Coral Springs, Fla. He was previously assistant general manager of the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Mass.

Shanley currently serves on the board of directors for both the Downtown Council and Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. He is immediate past president of Riverwalk Trust and continues to serve on the board. He is a member of several industry associations including the Performing Arts Center Consortium, International Association of Auditorium Managers, Florida Facility Managers Association, Florida Presenters Association and Broadway League.

Shanley earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the State University of New York, College of Arts and Sciences at Geneseo. He was a participant in the IAAM Senior Executive Symposium at Cornell University and at the International Association of Assembly Managers, Public Assembly Facility Management School at Oglebay.

Shanley resides in Coral Springs with his wife and three children.

Set against the lush, tropical backdrop of the banks of the New River, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts is at the heart of Fort Lauderdale's Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District, home to nearly 1,000 events annually.  With a roster of performances from classical to jazz, pop favorites to grand opera, comedy, dance and the best of Broadway, the Broward Center offers something for everyone.  An extensive range of family events take place at the Center including the Family Fun Series and Smart Stage Matinees.  As a mission-driven organization, the Broward Center brings a wide range of performances to the community through its Arts Access initiative which encourages local cultural organizations to take to the stage, providing them with marketing and technical support to help them become self-sustaining.   A partnership with the Broward County School Board has created an award-winning educational program, and a variety of global performances create a truly welcoming atmosphere.  In 2007, the Broward Center was named the "Cultural Embassy" of Broward County for its commitment to bringing culture, commerce and community together and using arts events to help build cultural bridges. Attendance at the Broward Center has earned it a consistent ranking in the top ten worldwide in industry publications including Pollstar and Venues Today.
