Broward Arts Journalism Alliance (BAJA) will open 2017 with a new series of workshops to continue nurturing local writers with professional development in various formats of writing.
In collaboration with the Goldring Arts Journalism Program, Janklow Arts Leadership Program and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at
Syracuse University, the new program is set to enhance the relationship between Broward County arts writers, the media and the community.
Three Saturday workshops will take place in 2017: January 28, February 25 and March 25 at ArtServe and at the BAJA Writers Room in Fort Lauderdale. Workshops will conclude each evening at FATVillage Art Walk for social and artistic stimulation in one of Fort Lauderdale's thriving downtown arts districts.
Training programs for BAJA writers are designed to explore the versatility of arts coverage from citizen writers to media professionals.
"The aim of BAJA is to achieve a greater volume of content with an informed dialogue promoting the arts community," says Broward Cultural Division Director Earl Bosworth. "Our goal is for Broward County to be recognized for a high caliber of writing that benefits both the writers and publications."
Topics of the 2017 workshops will include: blogging; reviewing; social media; creative writing; and The Arts Writer. As well as column writing; cultural storytelling; digital journalism; and editing.
The workshop series will culminate in March with a Call to Writers.
