ORLANDO SHAKESPEARE THEATER PRESENTS LAUGH-OUT-LOUD COMEDY GOD OF CARNAGE
Previews October 12 and 13; Playing October 14 - November 13, 2011 in the Goldman Theater at the Lowndes Shakespeare CenterOrlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF (OST) continues its 2011-2012 Signature Series with Yasmina Reza's 2009 Tony Award-winning play, GOD OF CARNAGE, playing October 12 through November 13, 2011 on the Goldman Stage. Under the direction of Orlando Shakes Associate Director of New Play Development, Mark Routhier, two high-strung couples battle each other in a hilarious 90-minute brawl hailed as a "four-way prize fight" by The New York Times.
Alan Raleigh and his wife Annette visit the apartment of Michael and Veronica Novak for what they believe will be a civilized discussion about a playground fight between their two sons. The meeting degenerates into irrational arguments and the loaded topics of misogyny, racial prejudice and homophobia. Insults fly, spouses turn on spouses and new alliances are created in this theatrical event The New Yorker called "ninety minutes of sustained mayhem."Originally Le Dieu du Carnage in French, Reza's play was first produced in English in London in March 2008 where it won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. GOD OF CARNAGE also enjoyed critical acclaim on Broadway, playing for 476 performances and winning the Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards for Best Play. A film adaptation, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz, is currently in production in Paris.
The artistic team includes Robbin Watts (Scenic Designer), Denise R. Warner (Costume Designer), Kevin Griffin (Lighting Designer), Britt Sandusky (Sound Designer), and George Hamrah (Stage Manager).GOD OF CARNAGE is made possible by LarsonAllen LLP.
