Books & Books

An exciting event will soon be taking place in theatres across South Florida/>.  The American premiere of The Beast should make any person of fine theatrical taste anxious to experience the new production, although ticket sales are limited to mature teens of 16 years and older.  The transoceanic production of Soviet origin was written by writers Mikhail Gindin and Viktor Sinokevitch during the 1970's and premiered in Russia/>/> in 1986.  Under the direction of Oleg Kheyfets and with the costume and set designs of Margarita Demianova the American debut will be produced by the original Russian artists who established the play as a beloved piece in Russian repertoire.  Mr. Kheyfets and his wife Stephanie Ansin, both with formidable artistic experience, are the Producing Artistic Directors of The PlayGround Theatre, the company that will be facilitating the production.

The unique artistry of The Beast is concurrent with the theatre's mission to introduce inspiring and innovative plays to the forthcoming generation of artists.  Set in a post-apocalyptic world, a tender love story is conveyed against a strange yet effective setting.  With the intent of spreading awareness of the play throughout the community, a group of artistically inclined students from local schools and universities such as the University of Miami, Florida International University, Palmetto Senior High, Palmer Trinity, Gulliver Preparatory, Ransom Everglades, Gables High School, South Miami Senior High, Southwest Senior High, New World School of the Arts, and KROP/> Senior High School/>/> are coordinating an evening at Books & Books.

365 Aragon Avenue
/> in Coral Gables/>/> on Friday, January 20, 2006 , 7-9pm called BOOK the BEAST.  Through music, food, and performances of excerpts from the play, residents will have the opportunity to become the first acquainted with The Beast as well as meet the director and cast.  Sponsorship for the Evening include donations from Jacob Serure and South Beach Smoothie.
