The Boca Raton Theatre Guild
Plans an Exciting 2011-2012 Season

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild announced the plays it has selected for its 2011-2012 season: Sarah Jones' Bridge and Tunnel, Charles Busch's Tales of the Allergist's Wife, the musical Sweet Charity, and Paulette Dozier in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. They will all play at the Willow Theatre in Boca Raton's Sugar Sand Park.

Last year, at the start of the season, the Guild took a giant step in its development and announced it would begin to offer competitive compensation for actors, an occasional Equity contract, and would endeavor to employ top-notch directors. "I see this as a major move forward in our evolution," BRTG Artistic Director Keith Garsson explained at the time. "We've been thinking along these lines for a while now."

The 2010-2011 season proved without a doubt the decision was the right one. Audiences responded in the best possible way - ticket sales were way up - in fact the Guild's production of Cabaret was entirely sold out.

The 2011-2012 line-up promises to continue the Guild's success story:

In Sarah Jones' Bridge and Tunnel, (September 9-11, 2011 - Tickets $15) a Polish-German-Lithuanian-American Jewish grandmother, a boyfriend-hating Australian, a Chinese mother of a lesbian daughter, a Jordanian woman with a fixation on the Beatles, and 10 other unique individuals provide their own distinctive, entertaining, and often moving perspectives on the American dream. Hosted by the charming and hilarious "Muhammad Ali" in a night club in Queens NY, these fascinating characters from the outer boroughs of New York - bridge and tunnelers - will offer their perceptions of the immigrant experience. Karen Stephens (recently named Best Actress - 2011 by the Broward New Times) stars in the hit show originally performed in both Sarasota and Ft. Lauderdale as part of the Women's Theatre Project. Tickets for Bridge and Tunnel are on sale now.

Charles Busch's Tales of the Allergist's Wife (November 5-20, 2011 - Tickets $18) is a comedic exploration of the Upper West side life of Marjorie Taub - middle-aged and middle-class - her loving husband, Ira, and her daily routines at Zabar's and the 92nd Street "Y." Marjorie's mother lives down the hall obsessing constantly about her digestive tract; her beloved therapist has just died; and she loses it in a Disney store. Unexpectedly invading her depression is her flamboyant childhood friend Lee who becomes entrenched in the Taub household as a seemingly permanent guest, not only drawing Marjorie out of her dark mood, but affecting her marriage as well. Tickets for Tales of the Allergist's Wife are on sale now.

With its book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Betty Fields, Sweet Charity (March, 2012 - Tickets $20) was an instant hit when it opened on Broadway in 1966. It's a bright, sophisticated, poignant, and funny look at the life and times of Charity Hope Valentine, a girl who never stops looking for love... in all the wrong places! With such show stoppers as ‘Big Spender', ‘If My Friends Could See Me Now', and ‘Baby, Dream Your Dream', Sweet Charity will delight audiences of all ages.

Renowned for her sultry alto voice and dynamic stage presence, two time- Carbonell Award nominee Paulette Dozier will bring Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill to the Willow Theatre in April (Tickets $15). Lanie Robertson's play finds iconic Jazz singer Billie Holiday at the end of her career, performing in a small club in Philadelphia; her music, her memories, and her demons all come into play in this powerful piece of theatre.

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to producing professional productions and advancing the art of theatre in the South Florida community.

All productions will take place in the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. The theatre is located at 300 South Military Trail in Boca Raton, just south of Palmetto Park Road. Tickets for Bridge and Tunnel and Tales of the Allergist's Wife are on sale now and can be purchased at the Willow Theatre Box office: 561-347-3948.
