Carnival Center for the Performing Arts and Tigertail Productions present the East Coast premiere of Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps - an evening of comedy, contradictions, aerial acrobatics and multimedia storytelling performed by critically acclaimed female-to-male transgender performance artist Scott Turner Schofield. The audience controls the sequence of events in this autobiographical story about one of life's biggest transitions. Performances are on January 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. in Carnival Center's Studio Theater.
Schofield has been hailed as "a rising light in queer theater….(Schofield) reaches out to the Average Joe with a mix of humor, honesty, and vulnerability" (UTNE Reader.) Since 2001, he has toured colleges, festivals, and theaters throughout the country with his humorous and thought-provoking solo performances, Debutante Balls and Underground Transit. In 2007, Schofield became the first openly transgendered artist to be commissioned by the National Performance Network when he was awarded a Creation Fund Grant to develop his work Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps. He has also been recently honored with a prestigious Princess Grace Foundation Fellowship for acting.

Bending Gender in the New Millennium
Carnival Center and Tigertail Productions will host a free panel discussion moderated by Lydia Martin from The Miami Herald, with Scott Turner Schofield and others on Tuesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. at Carnival Center's Peacock Foundation, Inc. Education Center (located inside the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall).
Arts and Activism on WLRN 91.3 FM
Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps is a featured work in Carnival Center's "Arts and Activism," program, a six-part series of public discussions, produced in partnership with WLRN 91.3 FM's "Topical Currents," that examine issues and ideas raised by performances of new works to be presented at the Center this season. This installment explores the topic of gender identity on WLRN 91.3 FM's "Topical Currents" radio call-in program on Wednesday, January 23 at 1 p.m.
Post-Performance Q&A Session
Carnival Center's Education and Outreach Program further enriches the experience of the audience by hosting a post-performance Q&A session, which is free and open to the public, on Saturday, January 26 immediately following the performance.
