In the performing arts world, new talent is always sought. With thousands and thousands of young student performers, it's sort of hard for many kids to seize an opportunity for themselves. And when one small audition finally crosses a kid's path, it's even more difficult to compete with the loads of others just like them, hoping for a start to their dream career. Luckily for Parkway Middle School of the Arts, an opportunity came riding their way, and boy, did they take it.
Around spring 2015, Jason Blitman in New York contacted his old friend Michelle Terl, the Artistic Director of Parkway Middle, and decided to introduce a whole new idea full of opportunities for the kids there. There was an audition for the top theatre students in the school, and a small cast of twelve and thirteen year-olds was chosen for what soon turned out to be STONE SOUP: The Musical.
It is a modern retelling of the old folktale, Stone Soup. It follows the journey of Magnolia, who moves to another state after a tragic storm. When nothing seems right anymore, she finally finds friendship, self-acceptance, and the meaning of "home" along the way. With an absolutely original, new musical, Terl worked locally with Eric Alsford and Dominic Raffa, who are Musical Directors, and host venue Broadway Kids Studio in Davie, Florida to hold a world premiere of the staged reading of STONE SOUP: The Musical. It will welcome audiences on April 29th and 30th.
Everything big starts out small. A small ensemble of kids with big dreams are finally taking off on their journey with this new musical. This may only be the beginning for these kids, but no matter how it may seem to them, it's one of the biggest opportunities kids are ever presented with, and there is no doubt that they will use it to their full extent. This new musical with definitely wow the crowd with the superb talent of the cast and will one day become something even bigger!
