An Application Workshop for Broward County's

2008 Arts Teacher of the Year Award

to be held on November 6, 2007, 4:30 pm at ArtServe

1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale

Broward County Commission's Cultural Division invites school principals, teachers, and members of the general community to attend an application workshop for the 2008 Arts Teacher of the Year Award, on November 6, 2007, 4:30 pm, at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. This is a great opportunity to nominate an outstanding arts teacher in Broward County for doing a remarkable job in dedication to this field. Arts teachers may also apply themselves.

The purpose of this workshop is to assist applicants with this highly-detailed process, showing them how to best represent themselves for optimum results. Technical assistance will be shared by a previous Arts Teacher of the Year winner Mary Cavioli, and by Arts Teacher of the Year selection panelist Pamella Dearden. Examples of past winning applications will also be studied. The application deadline is December 13, 2007.

Teachers whose primary assignment is an arts discipline including: dance, drama, music, visual arts, and media arts (photography, film, and video) are eligible to apply. Applications are also available online on the Broward Cultural Division website at http://www.broward.org/arts/aie/atoy.htm.

The Arts Teacher of the Year award, the only program of its kind in the United States, honors one outstanding arts teacher each year for their contribution and dedication to the arts in the classroom. The chosen recipient is honored in a gala ceremony at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in October.

"This award celebrates the important work of arts educators," says Mary A. Becht, Cultural Division Director. "One outstanding teacher is selected each year to represent the teaching excellence that exists in the school system; we strongly encourage our arts teachers to attend this workshop."
