An Evening of Living Newspaper
presented by
The State Theatre Project

Four South Florida Playwrights Pen
Brand New Short Plays RIPPED From the Headlines!

The State Theatre Project is proud to present its inaugural fundraiser:  An Evening of Living Newspaper, featuring brand new short plays by Christopher Demos-Brown, Carbonell Award winner (The Garden of Hannah List and Running with Scissors) Michael McKeever, Ashley Olberding and David Sirois.  Through the generosity of Joseph Adler, Producing Artistic Director of Gablestage, this fundraiser will take place at GableStage.

The State Theatre Project founder and Producing Artistic Director, David Hemphill, would like to welcome everyone to be a part of the start of a new theatre company dedicated to promoting theatrical experiences that enhance our relationship to the world in which we live.  Thanks to the overwhelming support and enthusiasm throughout the South Florida theatre community, The State Theatre Project is ready to hit the ground running.  Come enjoy a fun and enlightening evening of readings and performances, meet the powerhouse cast of local talent, peruse the companies' display tables and take a minute to consider being a part of one of the country's most gifted theatre arts communities.

The State Theatre Project's Living Newspaper Series will be an ongoing series featuring new plays for each production.  Based on The Federal Theatre Project's attempt at bringing life to important, topical, and socially relevant news stories during Roosevelt's New Deal, The Living Newspaper is the perfect starting block for this fledgling company dedicated to taking a hard and sometimes comical look at the state of the world, the state of America and the state of our own community.  In the future Hemphill expects the series will grow into a full-blown monthly production, featuring many theatrical elements including puppetry, mime, song and dance and constantly employing the talents of South Florida's incredible writers, actors and directors.

The State Theatre Project's ultimate goal is to become a company with a very serious dedication to their community.  Hemphill would also like to create a children's theatre program to further educate children to be better citizens as well as to help create a life-long love of the theatre and performing arts.  The Living Newpaper is the first fundraiser to help get this new company off the ground as well as to support it's very first full production, the Southeastern Premiere of Christopher Shinn's highly acclaimed Dying City in April at GableStage, starring The State Theatre Project company members Betsy Graver and David Sirois (two of South Florida theatre's rising stars).  More information about this production as well as information about the company's mission and goals will be available at the fundraiser.

The State Theatre Project's first installment of the Living Newspaper Series is Coordinated by Carbonell Award nominated Actor (Summer Shorts) & Producing Artistic Director of The State Theatre Project David Hemphill, and features the many talents of:

Carbonell Award winning Actor (The Normal Heart) Barbara Bradshaw, Marckenson Charles, Carbonell Award nominated Actor (Summer Shorts) Andy Quiroga, Gladys Ramirez, The State Theatre Project company member Jackie Rivera, Carbonell Award winning Producer and Actor (Two Sisters and a Piano, The Promethean Theatre) Deborah Sherman, The State Theatre Project resident playwright and company member David Sirois, Carbonell Award nominated Actor (Tom Walker) Robert Strain andCarbonell Award winning Actor (The Seafarer) Gregg Weiner.
