Due to unforeseen circumstances, American Stage Theatre Company will be producing Neal Simon's classic comedy, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK to end the theatre's 2010-11 Mainstage season, rather than the previously announced A STEADY RAIN by Keith Huff.

"The company that holds the rights to A STEADY RAIN hadn't signed off on allowing us to perform the play as of the start of the New Year, as we had been led to believe they would," said Todd Olson, American Stage's producing artistic director. "Since we always strive to provide Floridians the best theatre possible, we have decided to instead perform great American playwright Neil Simon's Tony Award-winning comedy, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK this summer."

Neil Simon's BAREFOOT IN THE PARK is about those delicious, delirious and dicey first days of marriage. It's 1964, and newlyweds Paul and Corie are just starting their life together in a tiny, fifth floor Manhattan walkup. He's a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she's a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. On moving into their new apartment, the newlyweds are invaded by Corie's interfering mother as well as an aging lothario neighbor-in-the-attic. After a series of hilarious misunderstandings, Paul must figure out how to connect with Corie, who just wants him to be a little more spontaneous (running "barefoot in the park" would be a great start). Don't miss this sparkling, romantic comedy from the master of the form.
