American Idol's Paige Miles Returns to Roots to Headline in Beehive - the 60's Musical!
- TheatreZone Director Mark Danni brings singing sensation back to the stage where she began her musical theater career -
Paige Miles, 25-year-old American Idol finalist and Community School of Naples (CSN) alumna, returns to her Naples hometown stage at the G&L Theatre to star in Beehive - the 60's Musical! announced TheatreZone Artistic Director Mark Danni.
"Paige began her singing career in musical theater when she played the lead in Starmites her senior year at CSN," explains Danni, who is also the Director of Performing Arts at CSN. "I knew she'd be perfect starring in the show because Beehive - the 60's Musical features the best of the girl groups and solo female stars from music's greatest decade," explains Danni. "Beehive is a joyous, "wanna sing along' musical revue, chronicling several female singing sensations from the 1960s," he adds.
"As soon as I heard that "Proud Mary" and "River Deep, Mountain High" were two of the musical numbers in Beehive, I knew I had to be in the show," explains Miss Miles.
According to Danni, Beehive -- the '60s Musical! is all about the songs, the women singers and how deeply they were influenced by social and political mores as well as how they influenced the newly awakening generation just beginning to emerge from the straight-laced Eisenhower era to the youthful charismatic Kennedy days.
"With hits that span the decade from the Chiffons and Leslie Gore to The Supremes, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner, Beehive has got it all, including a sizzling live band, eye popping choreography and over 50 outrageous costume and wig changes," Danni adds. "These are classic songs."
The original stage presentation of Beehive was in 1985 and ran for over 18 months Off-Broadway at the Village Gate Theatre in New York City. In 1988, a Denver production ran for 69-weeks and then toured nationally for 20-weeks including 13-weeks at Harrah's Marina Hotel in Atlantic City.
According to the New York Times, the production is "pure irresistible fun. What Grease did for the 50's, Beehive does for the 60's."
