PLAYHOUSE CELEBRATES COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND WITH ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE

The Lake Worth Playhouse presents ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE, Ted Swindley's popular musical play about the legendary country singer and her most devoted fan. This song-filled tribute show opens at the Playhouse on April 17 and runs through May 3, 2009.

ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE is based on the true story of Patsy Cline's friendship with Houston housewife, Louise Seger, who first heard the young country singer on the Arthur Godfrey Show in 1957 and became an instant fan. The show follows the course of the profound friendship shared by these two unique women who eventually met at a Houston honkey-tonk and maintained close ties until Cline's untimely death in a plane crash in 1963.  As seen through Louise's eyes, the show offers fans - both old and new - a chance to experience the beloved country music sensation that was Patsy Cline. The show features a live band and more than 20 country standards including Cline's hits: I Fall To Pieces, Crazy, Walking After Midnight, Your Cheatin' Heart, Stupid Cupid and many more.

South Florida native, Wendy Haley directs the show with a simple and heartfelt vision. "I want to give the audience a glimpse into a brief, intimate time in the lives of two extraordinary women," Haley said. "Patsy and Louise are a visual representation of the deep and meaningful friendships that can evolve between women. This is more than a musical retrospective. It's a look at the life of a true trailblazer who paved the way for many women in country music, and managed to touch some hearts along the way." Haley has previously directed shows at the Lake Worth Playhouse both in the Playhouse black box theatre, The Stonzek, and on the Playhouse main stage.

Ted Swindley has directed and produced more than 200 plays over the past 20 years.

Most recently Swindley has premiered three new musicals, STEP INTO MY PARLOR (Tulsa, OK), SUMMER OF '66 (Myrtle Beach, SC), and SWINGSTEP (Toronto, Canada). SWINGSTEP was nominated for the Best Musical award in Canada, (comparable to the Tony awards in America.) Swindley also directed THE HONKY TONK ANGELS and STEP INTO MY PARLOR at the Picolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.

ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE is the final show of the Lake Worth Playhouse's 56th season, which opened with the William Hauptman/Roger Miller musical, BIG RIVER, and was followed by the Ken Ludwig farce, LEADING LADIES, Dan Goggin's musical comedy, NUNSENSE and Arthur Miller's award-winning drama, THE CRUCIBLE.

Opening Night for ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE is Friday, April 17, 2009 at 8:00 PM. Performances run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sunday, April 19th at 7:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday matinees are scheduled on April 19th, 25th, 26th and May 2nd and 3rd at 2:00 PM. ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE closes Sunday, May 3rd.

Single ticket prices are $25 and $29 and can be purchased through the Lake Worth Playhouse Box Office at 561-586-6410 or online at www.lakeworthplayhouse.org.
