Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre closes the successful 2010-2011 season with the world premiere of See Jane Run!, a new musical by Maribeth Graham and Dana P. Rowe. A multiple nominee and three-time recipient of the Carbonell Award, Graham has appeared in New York City Off-Broadway, many times at Actors' Playhouse and in most major South Florida regional theaters. Rowe, whose musical works include Zombie Prom, The Fix, and The Witches of Eastwick, has received Olivier Award nominations for The Fix and The Witches of Eastwick, both of which were produced in London's West End by Sir Cameron Mackintosh.
See Jane Run! takes a bold and often surprising look at the 21st century woman. From secret desires to manic disorders, nothing is sacred in this truly funny and moving glimpse of the female sex. Three women take the audience through a series of revealing songs and scenes, where we meet the contemporary every-woman "Jane" as she tries to decide what makes her run, who she's running from and where she's running to. This edgy musical is filled with aha! moments for every "Jane" out there, and for every man who is trying to figure her out!
Actors' Playhouse Artistic Director
David Arisco worked closely with the playwrights throughout the past year developing this new work through a series of public and private readings. The playwrights will also be working closely on the production, with Graham set to perform in See Jane Run! and Rowe acting as Musical Director.
"See Jane Run! is an exciting wrap up to our 2010 - 2011 season, which has been book ended with World Premieres," said Artistic Director David Arisco. "Working closely with sharp, new lyricist Maribeth Graham and world-renowned composer Dana P. Rowe has been a professional privilege and I'm honored to bring their premiere collaboration to our stage."
Actresses Irene Adjan and Jeni Hacker will join Graham onstage. Irene Adjan is a long-time member of the South Florida regional theatre community and is happy to be back at Actors' Playhouse where she has appeared in Another Night Before Christmas, 1776, Full Monty and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, among others. A proud member of Actors' Equity Association, Irene is an eleven-time Carbonell nominee, and has won the award three times. Jeni Hacker, who thrilled Actors' Playhouse audiences with her vocal talents during this season's production of Oliver!, has area credits that include Little Red Riding Hood from Into The Woods, Maisie from The Boyfriend and Lisa Heigel in a weekly production at the FamJamz Theater in Coral Gables. Ms. Hacker secured the role for this production through her participation in the January staged reading. The creative team for See Jane Run! includes Set Designer Gene Seyffer, Costume Designer Ellis Tillman, Lighting Designer Patrick Tennent and Sound Designer Alexander Herrin.
