ABOUT THE PLAY…

"A Shot In the Dark" is an interactive murder mystery that
supposedly takes place about The Daisy Cruise ship.   The Daisy has
a new owner, the young multi-millionaire Paul Ellegant and the
cruise director has organized a talent show to welcome him aboard.
He, Captain Martin  (the former owner who lost his ship to the
millionaire) and the perky cruise director Annie personally welcome
guests as they arrive for the evening.  Annie takes pictures, a
fortuneteller tells fortunes and the singer recruits back-up singers
for his act.  The audience is seated and the show begins.
Suddenly---the lights go out!  There is a shot in the dark, a
scream, a body lying in the doorway.  The captain chases the
murderer and returns to begin the investigation.

Who committed the murder?  Was it the sleazy casino
manager, the fortune teller who is hiding a secret, the has-been
actress who has gone from starring in movies to making dog-food
commercial or was it one of the informers who just happen to be in
the room with information to share?

If you'd like to try your hand at being a detective and
solving the murder of "X", you can do so at La Paloma Restaurant on
October 30th, (Halloween eve) at 7 pm.  You can meet and question
the suspects, examine clues, share information and help the captain
solve the crime.

Author Barbara Fox is the producer/director of Mystery on the
Menu Inc, an interactive theater company she founded in Washington
DC in 1986 and moved to Miami five years ago.
"Interactive murder mysteries are fun and sociable" she
says, "you're not just watching a play, you are participating in
it.  It's like a live game of Clue.  I started writing and producing
murder mysteries twenty years ago because I think people like to
play, to laugh and get involved as opposed to just sitting and
watching"

"Sometimes", she added, "people get a little too involved,
I've had members of the audience try to tackle the murderer or
follow the suspects when they leave the room or hide some of the
clues".  She remembers one time when the company was doing a holiday
show for a law firm at a very prestigious hotel in downtown
Washington.

"I was the murderer and I had just fired the gun when the
door behind me opened and three secret service agents grabbed me. It
seems that the prime minister of Turkey was having a meeting in the
next room and no one had told the secret service that a murder
mystery was being presented.   After a few scary moments they found
out it was a play so they laughed and joined the party.   Of course"
she added sternly, "we strongly discourage things like that; every
program includes instructions on how to participate"
