Hit Comedy Musical

A JEW GROWS IN BROOKLYN

To End a Record Breaking Run

April 27th

A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, Jake Ehrenreich's "rock 'n roll true story, Holocaust survivor family, borscht belt..." autobiographical comedy musical will end its record-breaking run at the Cuillo Centre for the Arts on April 27th. The show, which has played to consistently sold out houses since opening on January 10th, was initially booked for a limited engagement at the West Palm Beach theatre, but was extended several times due to unprecedented ticket demand.  This extraordinary response to A Jew Grows in Brooklyn - which has played to over 30,000 audience members during its 14 week run - has led Ehrenreich and the show's producers to consider bringing the show back to South Florida next season - possibly to Broward County.

Jake Ehrenreich's reminiscences are relayed with a combination of music, laughter and various multi-media effects.  A talented singer, musician and raconteur, Ehrenreich entertains, educates and touches hearts.  From his childhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn, through his experiences as a 'tummler' in the Catskills/Borsht Belt, to his years as an actor and musician, Ehrenreich invites his audiences along on his journey. But it is the stories he tells of his Holocaust Survivor parents - their struggle to find their footing in America, which form the heart and soul of the piece.  Ehrenreich is aware of the effect of his history:

"I don't want to bring people too far into the black hole of the Holocaust," he says, noting that his show is mostly upbeat and optimistic. "If people in the audience laugh," he concludes, "it means that they trust me not just to take them to a more serious place, but to bring them out and make them joyous and grateful when they leave."

For Ehrenreich, his show is ultimately a "celebration." He quotes Billy Crystal, who quipped that performing a show about his life was like "a visit with my family every night."

There will be no performances of  A Jew Grows in Brooklyn on April 17, 18, 19 & 20 in observance of Passover.
