The public is invited to step into the Lovewell world on Saturday, Jan. 5, and be swept away by performances from current and past Lovewell alumni in their annual Lovewell Songbook Alumni Concert at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida.
Since 1989 Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts has conducted creative musical theatre workshops around the globe generating a plethora of new, original and successful musicals.
Tickets for the Saturday concert at the university's Performance Theater, 3301 College Avenue, are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors. For more information, go to http://lovewell.ticketleap.com/4th-annual-lovewell-songbook-alumni-show or at www.lovewell.org or contact Carrie Gilchrist, Artistic Director, carrie@lovewell.org.
During a workshop, Lovewell lnstitute empowers its students to conceive, compose, choreograph, design, produce and at the conclusion of the process, perform a full length musical in front of a live audience.
"This is a highlight of the year for us," says Artistic Director Carrie Gilchrist. "One hundred performers, ages 8-80, will be on stage together singing songs from over 15 different shows written in Lovewell workshops around the world. From current students to Broadway professionals, Lovewell is the common thread."
Lovewell Institute is also the creative force behind the hit anti-bullying musical The Weight of Words. Over the past two years more than 30,000 students have seen this show as it has toured Broward County, played at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and had performances in Las Vegas. Now The Weight of Words is getting national attention as this groundbreaking show addresses one of the most timely issues facing our youth.
"Everyone needs a platform for change and the arts are a powerful tool of communication that can provide that platform. At our Alumni Concert you will be awed by the sheer quality of these original songs, by the weight of the messages they communicate and by the collective spirit of all these creative minds coming together."
