Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County announced plans for their 2008 summer season, which includes four main stage productions that range from the coolest in popular entertainment to the world premiere of Miami Libre, an Adrienne Arsht Center original production.
Summer at the Center begins with the beloved larger-than-life characters of Go, Diego, Go Live! and culminates with the Miami debut of the visual stage spectacular Slava's Snowshow. Adrienne Arsht Center will honor the legend ofglobal music icon Celia Cruz and commemorate the 5-year anniversary of her death with CELIA: The Life & Music of Celia Cruz, set to launch its first international tour in Miami. Another first this summer – Adrienne Arsht Center presents the world premiere of its original production Miami Libre, A Tale of Cuban passion and American dreams narrated through the music of the two-time Grammy-nominated Cuban music group Tiempo Libre and some of Miami's most talented dancers.
Back by popular demand, summer programming continues in the Carnival Studio Theater with the return of City Theatre's Summer Shorts Festival and the XXIII International Hispanic Theatre Festival.
GO, DIEGO, GO LIVE!
The popular Nick Jr. show starring Diego swings into action at the Ziff Ballet Opera House stage in a co-presentation with Broadway Across America-Miami of GO, DIEGO, GO LIVE! The Great Jaguar Rescue on June 14 and 15. Diego, along with his sister, Alicia and cousin, Dora the Explorer, star in an interactive kids and families show featuring life-sized puppets, live performers and colorful Broadway sets. The audience joins Diego on an action-packed special mission to find Baby Jaguar and get to the Animale Carnivale while rescuing animals and navigating through the rainforest along the way.

Cuban legend and global icon Celia Cruz is back in the explosive new musical CELIA: The Life & Music of Celia Cruz in the Knight Concert Hall June 18 through July 6. Featuring a hit parade of her greatest songs, Celia takes the audience on an amazing 60-year musical journey through the life and music of the sensational salsa diva, from her humble beginnings in Cuba to the international superstardom that made her one of the most remarkable Hispanic artists who has ever lived. Told through the eyes of Celia's beloved husband, Pedro Knight, Celia reincarnates the magnificent star adored by millions. Already a major hit in New York, Celia's company of 16 singers, dancers and musicians come to Miami to kick off their international tour at the Adrienne Arsht Center with performances in English and Spanish.

MIAMI LIBRE – WORLD PREMIERE!
The Knight Concert Hall is transformed into the hottest nightclub in town, featuring Miami's own sizzling timba band, Tiempo Libre, and the hottest dancers north of Havana. From July 25 – August 17, audiences will be the first to experience Miami Libre -- the new dance extravaganza which tells the story in English and in Spanish of a musician's search for love and liberty. Tiempo Libre performs live in this tale of two cities united by the spirit of one people. The show celebrates Cuban music and the millions who carry it in their hearts, no matter where they go.

SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW
It'll be snowing this summer in Miami. The internationally acclaimed production Slava's Snowshow will make its Miami debut on July 24 and run through August 17 in the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House. A cross between Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group, this entertainment phenomenon created by Slava, the original Cirque's clown genius, is an awesome theatrical experience and a profoundly moving spectacle full of wondrous images, delightful comedy, haunting music and snow—lots and lots of snow. Slava's Snowshow has "stage effects that are dazzling" (Daily Mail) and a "finale that blows you away!" (Mail on Sunday.) Winner of London's Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and 2005 Drama Desk Award recipient for Unique Theatrical Experience, Slava's Snowshow has been hailed by The London Independent as "An unmistakably unique, unmissable comedy masterpiece."

SUMMER SHORTS, AMERICA'S SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL
America's Short Play Festival returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center's Carnival Studio Theater with a mix of "short" one-act plays from the nation's newest and undiscovered talents. Summer Shorts is now available in 3 styles: Signature Shorts (May 29-June 22,) the signature series of hilarious comedies and heartfelt dramas, presented in two alternating programs, A & B, that put City Theatre's "shorts" on the map; Shorts 4 Kids (June 12-22,) a furiously fast and fun event for families featuring a mix of hilarious comedies and exciting plays along with an activity book for kids to pen their own "shorts," and Undershorts (June 12-22) a completely new, late night series of short edgy plays that are provocative, and irreverent.
