A first-ever Spanish-language production of MARY POPPINS will premiere in Mexico City on November 14 at the Centro Cultural Telmex. This new production joins Broadway, the US National Tour and the Australia/New Zealand Tour, and adds to the legacy of London, the UK Tour and a production in Holland which have completed their runs. In the video, Richard M. Sherman serenades the cast backstage.
The popularity and success of MARY POPPINS has created a strong demand from regional theatres to produce their own professional productions. Typically, licenses for such productions are only granted at the completion of the Broadway and National Tour runs, but the producers have elected to begin granting select licenses while Broadway and the National Tour remains vibrant, just as Mackintosh and Disney did for Les Miserables and Beauty and the Beast respectively. The first four professional domestic regional productions are now confirmed for 2013, including: Marriott Lincolnshire in IL, Tuachan in Utah, Musical Theatre of Wichita in KS and Maine State Music Theatre in ME, with more to follow. Additionally, licensed local professional productions this fall include a production in Budapest, Hungary which opened on September 21st, 2012 at the Madach Theatre. Two previous repertory productions also return to Estonia and the Czech Republic. The production in Estonia reopened at the Teater Vaneumine in Tallin on September 25th, 2012 and the Czech Republic production will reopen at the Brno City Theatre on November 12, 2012.
