Soprano, Tanisha Ward, has been heard in a variety of venues in her native Memphis, Tennessee and beyond. A former Artist-in-Residence with Opera Memphis and the winner of an Emerging Artist Grant from Arts Memphis, Ms. Ward has been seen in supporting and featured roles with several Opera Memphis productions including Aida, Tremonisha, Porgy & Bess, and Turandot and covered the leading soprano role of Euridice in Gluck’s Orpheus. She was Gretel in Opera Memphis’s outreach tour of Hansel and Gretel and was featured in a one-woman show entitled Black Roots of Opera for the company in honor of Black History Month.
She holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Memphis and the Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Ms. Ward has been a frequent prize winner in regional NATS competitions. Additional credits include the Church Soloist in Playhouse on the Square’s award-wining production of The Color Purple, featured soloist in Art for Life’s Sake, international tours in recital for D&P Joubert Worldwide and lent her voice to productions with Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the New York Lyric Opera, Druid City Opera Workshop, Red Mountain Theatre and Moon River Opera.
Ms. Ward has also sung contemporary works including, but not limited to, Pretty Little Room (Lucy Franklin) by Robert Patterson. In 2022, she made her company debut with Hattiloo Theatre reprising the role of Serena in their production of Porgy & Bess and featured with The Memphis Wind Symphony in their annual Veterans Day concert. Ms. Ward will make her company debut with St. Croix Falls Festival Theatre in the fall of 2023.
Ms. Ward recently began a performance-based initiative called Classical Melodies, Inc. The initiative focuses on sharing Classical music in under-served, under-represented areas with school-aged students/communities in our mid-south area. Classical Melodies, Inc. is presently awaiting its 501c3 non-profit designation. This performance is inspired by that drive to bring classical melodies to our community and raise money for this effort. For donation and performance information, contact tanishalward@gmail.com
