Pulitzer Prize and Drama Critic's Circle Award winner for Drama, Talley's Folly by Lanford Wilson will open the 2012 -13 season of the Next Stage at Theatre Memphis tonight, September 21, 2012, and run through October 7, 2012.

A romantic comedy, the show features two characters, Matt and Sally, who are coming to grips with what it is in life that they really want. Matt is convinced they are meant to be together but Sally has her doubts. It is only after they reveal themselves to each other completely that a decision can be made as they settle their feelings for one another once and for all.

Directed by Marler Stone, Talley's Folly (part of a Wilson trilogy involving the Talley family) is a story about social class conflict that strives to define what the definition of family is to this couple. He says, "I was blown away by this love story. In this day and time, there is so much angst in life … in theatre too. This is just different in that it is so refreshing and pleasing to watch how the unresolved comes to their choice of conclusion."

Stone talks of his love of the material but he freely admits it takes good actors to carry off so much exposition. Aliza Moran and Greg Szatkowski are cast as Sally Talley and Matt Friedman and Stone feels he is lucky to have them.

"They have so much to offer; sensitive to the material. I want my actors to explore and know who their characters are so I encourage questions and suggestions. I usually get the credit as the director but I know theatre is a collaborative effort and ideas can some form all involved in the process."

Moran was last seen at Theatre Memphis in Hedda Gabler and is currently the Managing Director of the Theatre Memphis professional touring troupe, ShoWagon, which performs in schools during the academic year. Szatkowski was last seen at Theatre Memphis in the contemporary play Circle Mirror Transformation.

This is the first Lanford Wilson script that Stone has directed and he has only seen a cutting of the play in performance. Matter-of-factly he states, "It's about time we had a beautiful love story."

Talley's Folly, written by Lanford Wilson, directed by Marler Stone, runs tonight, September 21 – October 7, 2012, Thursdays @ 7:30pm Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $23 for adults, $15 for students with a valid ID. Call 901.682.8323 to purchase tickets or go online to www.theatrememphis.org.

Theatre Memphis is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization located at 630 Perkins Extended (corner of Perkins and Southern) and is a community theatre whose mission is to provide outstanding theatrical experiences to enrich the lives of our audiences and participants.
