The Orpheum Theatre begins its 2009-2010 Family Series on Nov. 11 with a rendition of the timeless classic Peter and the Wolf. All show times are 6 pm and run approximately 70 minutes in length.
This year's line-up features seven shows based on literary classics and contemporary hits. Tickets are $12.50 individually and Family Four-Packs are $32 for four tickets. Groups of ten or more receive a rate of $8 per ticket. · Peter and the Wolf, November 11, 2009 at 6:00pm
The duck, the bird and The cat join Peter and his grandfather to outsmart a crafty wolf in this familiar tale, set to both classical and contemporary music. Prokofiev's musical themes for each of the characters are the colorful ribbons that tie the show together. An old favorite with a brand new look, it is a charming musical introduction to theatre for the youngest of audiences and adults too.
· Mad Science® Presents CSI: Live, November 24, 2009 at 6:00pm
The world's number one television franchise is hitting the stage! Mad Science presents CSI: LIVE!, an exciting, interactive journey through the fascinating world of crime scene investigations. Students become part of the action, becoming witnesses, suspects and CSI recruits. Together they will use logic and forensic know-how to uncover hidden details, investigate the evidence and test their theories.
· Chasing George Washington: A White House Adventure, November 30, 2009 at 6:00pm
In this charming new musical, Dee Dee, Jose, and Annie accidentally knock George Washington out of his portrait and into real life. As they try to get the nation's first President back into his painting, the threesome encounters other famous White House residents, including the Lincolns, Dolley Madison, and Jackie Kennedy. Together, they learn that the White House is not just a historic building; it is also a home.
· The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon, January 22, 2010 at 6:00pm
Based on the delightful picture book by Crockett Johnson, Harold follows the zany adventures of an inventive young boy who creates the world he wants to explore using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his sky's-the-limit imagination. Using life-size puppets, masks, magic, and music, Enchantment's production will delight and amaze audiences of all ages.
· Most Valuable Player, February 15, 2010 at 6:00pm
This triumphant story of Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play professional major league baseball, chronicles the young athlete's nonviolent struggle to integrate what was then considered a "white man's game." Through it all, Jackie's courage, intelligence, leadership, resilience and athletic skill propelled him to become a national hero.
· A Year With Frog and Toad, March 3, 2010 at 6:00pm
Back for an encore performance this hit on Broadway, remains true to the spirit of the original stories as it follows two great friends, cheerful Frog and grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation in the spring, they plant gardens, swim, rake leaves and go sledding, learning life lessons along the way, including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.
· Tomie de Paola's Strega Nona:The Musical, March 30, 2010 at 6:00pm
Strega Nona is the musical tale of a friendly magical grandmother with a funny name who strives to cure the ills of her tiny Italian town of Calabria. The town faces real problems when a local lug named Big Anthony sneaks a peek at Strega Nona's magic book and uses her magical ways for selfish means. Through Anthony's meddling, pasta threatens to engulf the whole town -- unless Strega Nona can save the day!
