Temple Israel presents Robert Klein At The Halloran Centre 2/10

Temple Israel synagogue announced today a premiere special event at the Halloran Centre at the Orpheum - an evening of laughter & music with comedy legend, Robert Klein on Saturday, February 10 at 8:00 pm. Open to the entire Memphis community, the evening will support the synagogue's mission to be a force for good - in the lives of its members and the greater community. Klein will be accompanied by Bob Stein, Klein's longtime music director who composes, conducts, and produces his personal and TV appearances, videos, CDs, and more.

"It's a great honor for Temple Israel to bring Robert Klein to Memphis to perform live at the state-of-the-art Halloran Centre," said Betsy Saslawsky and Sheila Hahn, co-chairs of this debut event. "We know it will be an outstanding evening and a wonderful way to support so many important programs at Temple Israel and within the larger community."

Regarded as a founding father of modern stand-up comedy, Robert Klein is considered a major influence on Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Crystal, Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and countless others. He has entertained audiences for more than 40 years with credits on Broadway and in several television and film favorites.

Klein's storied career includes: a stint with Chicago's famed "Second City" improvisational theater troupe; two GRAMMY Award nominations for Child of the Fifties and Mind Over Matter, and a Best Actor Tony Award nomination / Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for his performance in the hit Neil Simon musical, They're Playing Our Song. Klein also won an Obie and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in Wendy Wasserstein's The Sisters Rosensweig.

In 1975, Klein was the first comedian to star in a live concert on HBO and has gone on to do nine acclaimed one-man shows for the network. Among dozens of starring and guest-starring roles on television, he co-starred in the hit NBC series, Sisters; has a recurring guest-starring role on Law and Order, and guest starred on The Good Wife and Royal Pains. He made more than a hundred appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Show with David Letterman, and regularly appears on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Notable films include: Hooper, The Owl and the Pussycat, Primary Colors, Two Weeks Notice, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and The Back-Up Plan. Earlier this year, Klein was the subject of an acclaimed documentary on Starz, Robert Klein Still Can't Stop His Leg.
