Immortalized onstage and screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, this classic tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. The Miracle Worker dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Helen, trapped in her secret world, is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence. Following scenes of intense physical and emotional dynamism, Annie's success with Helen finally comes with the utterance of a single word.
Directed by University of Memphis Graduate Student Heather Wilson, THE MIRACLE WORKER stars Associate Company Member Laura Stracko (The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Narnia) as Annie Sullivan and Carly Nahon and Erica Peninger in the role of Helen Keller. The cast also features Resident Company Members Dave Landis (The History Boys, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf) and Irene Crist (The Little Dog Laughed, Third, The Glass Menagerie), as well as Associate Company Members Nicole Renee Hale (Pippin, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), and David Ryan (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, RENT, Altar Boyz).
