This 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning play takes place in a run-down movie theater in central Massachusetts, where three underpaid employees mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35-millimeter film theatres in the state named The Flick.
For Avery, this isn't a dead-end job. It's a way to get closer to the art form he loves. Passionate debates about cinema lead to a friendship of sorts with co-workers Sam and Rose. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen.
This ensemble of four is made up of Playhouse on the Square Resident Company Member Brooke Papritz (The Country House; Peter Pan) as Rose, John Maness (Kiss Me Kate; Race), Roman Kalei Kyle (Ripcord; All the Way) as Avery, and Oliver J. Pierce (Kiss Me Kate; The Fantasticks) as Skylar/The Dreaming Man. The Flick is directed by Playhouse on the Square Resident Company Member Jordan Nichols (Kiss Me Kate; Memphis).
The Flick runs August 25 - September 10 at The Circuit Playhouse. The Circuit Playhouse Inc. Super Sponsor is Dr. Thomas Ratliff. The Pay-What-You-Can Performance is Thursday, August 31st at 8pm and is sponsored by ArtsFirst/First Tennessee Foundation and Southland Park Gaming and Racing.
