Playhouse on the Square's annual Curtain Up fundraiser will be held on Friday, November 8th from 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM. This year's theme is Carnival Noir. The dark carnival traffics in the delightfully unusual, mixing elements of a traditional carnival with unexpected and theatrical twists. Enjoy games, hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and live entertainment all night in five different environments: The Rooftop, weather permitting, will feature tarot readings, henna tattoos, a fire pit, coffee with assorted liqueurs, and music by Alexis Grace. Travel underneath the stage to the Trap Room speakeasy to play poker, penny pitching, and other street games while taking in the vaudevillian sounds of the band Black Max. Step into a cloud and discover the spring maze in the second floor Event Room. Choose a path and come face-to-face with one of three rewards. The Café is the place to get lost in crisp and cozy autumn. Enjoy cider and beer with music by Curtain Up favorites Nay Nay and the Do Right Boys. The Café will also feature tree readings starting at 9:00 PM with "The Amazing Grayson" Smith! Guests will choose their paper and drawing instrument to draw a tree. The chosen tools and the drawing reveal insights into your personality. End the night by dancing on The Playhouse main stage with the Memphis Knights Big Band, an 18-piece swing and jazz group that will make you jump, jive, and wail with their great harmonies and big sound.
