The Club by Eve Merriam plays Playhouse On The Square, featuring songs from the period of 1894-1905 arranged by Alexandra Ivanoff.
Runs January 6 – January 29, 2012
At the turn of the Century, a group of gentlemen gathers at an upper-class, men’s club to drink, smoke, and plan the spring follies… but these gentlemen may not be all that they appear. The gloves come off in this wry and sharply comic satire as they share sexist jokes, racy stories, and sing songs of the era -all indicative of male smugness and superiority.
The Club is directed by Ann Marie Hall (Ostrander Award-winner for Bad Dates at Theatre Memphis’ NextStage) and features Playhouse on the Square Company Member Sarah Hoch (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying; Annie), Sally Stover (Hats!), Ruth Johnson (Hats!), Mary Buchignani (Speech & Debate), Misty L. O’Neal (Ragtime; Annie), Mimmye Goode (Hats!), and Stacey McFadin debuting.
The Club runs at TheatreWorks as part of the POTS@TheWorks Series January 6 – January 29, Thursdays – Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. The Pay-What-You-Can performance is Thursday, January 12th at 8pm. TheatreWorks is located at 2085 Monroe in Midtown.
