LoneTree Live wants you to skip the cheesy costume party this year and try time travelling instead. Meet aliens from another dimension, encounter sentient robots and discover strange worlds, future technologies and alternate realities that defy human comprehension. LoneTree Live gives audiences an opportunity to see brand new work by emerging local artists at its first scratch night this Halloween season. Sci-Fi Scratch Night is an intimate showcase of short, original Sci-Fi work by eight Memphis playwrights that includes a free gift of whiskey.

Jeff posson, a director, actor and playwright born and raised in Memphis, is presenting his piece Omnivorous. The short play tells an unsettling and mysterious story about a doctor, living in a future world in which humans no longer need to eat, who comes across a specimen from the past. Posson cleverly creates a perplexing story that slowly unravels to reveal what could be a dangerous world.

Posson said, "New work is important because you need to keep the arts flowing or else they stagnate," and LoneTree Live, a theatre company founded and ran by local director Julia Hinson, is committed to creating new work by giving a home to local writers and devising original work with an ensemble. LoneTree Live, which is newly based in Memphis, has presented new and devised work worldwide. The company pushes the boundaries of performance through creative use of the voice and body and innovative use of technology.

Hinson, who always creates work that breaks convention, is excited to share this inaugural event with locals and sci-fi fans alike this Halloween season. She said. "Every short play forces the audience to engage with some aspect of the unknown, which is often really scary."

If you're looking for something different to do this autumn, support local playwrights as they present brand new work for the first time, which Posson calls, "maybe the most terrifying aspect of the whole theatrical process," and in the meantime, get a little spooked yourself.

Sci Fi Scratch Night, presented by LoneTree Live, plays October 19th and 20th at 8pm and 21st at 2pm at Evergreen Theatre, located at 1705 Poplar Ave, Memphis. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available here: bit.ly/scifiscratch or at the door. Recommended for 14 years+. Free alcoholic beverage with every ticket (for those over 21).
