Craig Brewer will host "Beyond the Screen with Indie Memphis" before the Orpheum showing of THE BIG LEBOWSKI tonight, August 2nd at 6:30 PM. One of Memphis' most accomplished filmmakers, Brewer is best known for his second feature film, HUSTLE & FLOW, which won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award for Best Feature and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. His acclaimed filmography includes THE POOR AND HUNGRY, BLACK SNAKE MOAN, $5 COVER, and the recent remake of FOOTLOOSE. For this special edition of "Beyond the Screen," Brewer will talk about his own experience with THE BIG LEBOWSKI and how the movie has influenced him as a filmmaker.

"I'm very excited to host Indie Memphis' 'Beyond the Screen' at this year's Summer Movie Series," says Brewer. "The Orpheum is a great representation of Memphis' movie-going history, and Indie Memphis is the future of local filmmaking. These two have come together to present a very influential - and of course hilarious - film, and I'm eager to give audiences a director's perspective on THE BIG LEBOWSKI."

Famous brother duo Joel and Ethan Coen write and direct the cult comedy classic, THE BIG LEBOWSKI. Slacker Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) gets involved in a gargantuan mess of events when he's mistaken for another man named Lebowski, whose wife has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. All the while, Dude's friend, Walter (John Goodman), stirs the pot. Also starring Steve Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Julianne Moore, THE BIG LEBOWSKI offers a brilliant comedy with a brilliant cast.

The Orpheum Theatre has presented an annual movie series since the late 1970's as a remembrance of its history as a first-run movie house from 1930 to 1975.
