In this 2010 Tony Award-winning drama set in the late 1950s, abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko is commissioned to create a series of murals for New York's luxurious Four Seasons restaurant. The project ignites an emotional inferno as he struggles with his success and the legacy he wants to leave behind. Will his paintings mean anything in a place that represents everything he detests? He works feverishly under the watchful eye of his bright, young assistant, Ken. But when Ken gains the confidence to challenge his teacher on some of his misguided ideals, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing.

Red is directed by Brian Fruits (Race) and features Tony Isbell (The Seafarer) as Rothko and Playhouse on the Square Associate Company Member Christopher Joel Onken (Deathtrap) as Ken.

Red runs August 23 - September 15 at The Circuit Playhouse Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. The Pay What You Can performance is Thursday, August 29 at 8pm. The Circuit Playhouse is located at 51 S. Cooper Street. For more information or to make reservations, please call 901-726-4656 or purchase tickets online at playhouseonthesquare.org.
