Chatterbox Audio Theater, Memphis's only web-based theater company, has announced the release of its latest production, OEDIPUS THE KING, ACT II. This intense, audio-only version of the quintessential Greek tragedy features a wide variety of Memphis talent. Act II (of three) runs approximately 36 minutes and is now available for free streaming and download through iTunes and www.chatterboxtheater.org.

Sophocles' classic play OEDIPUS THE KING depicts the fall of Oedipus, King of Thebes. An oracle reveals to Oedipus that the gods are angry over a long-ago act of violence: the murder of the former king, Laius. As Oedipus investigates the circumstances surrounding Laius' death, he begins to uncover evidence incriminating himself in the crime. The dire prophecies and dreadful revelations that follow remain shocking and moving more than 2,400 years after the play was written.

Recorded in three acts, OEDIPUS THE KING marks the first time Chatterbox has produced a script from ancient Greece, though the group retold another classic tale from the period with 2012's ARGONAUTICA. OEDIPUS THE KING is told in an accessible, contemporary translation by Ian Johnston, a retired professor from Vancouver Island University. The cast features Tim Greer, Kinon Keplinger, Jeanna Juleson, Andy Saunders, Jennifer Henry, and Bill Andrews. The show features music by Jonathan Saunders and original artwork by RahLeeCoh Ishakarah. Rhodes College professor David Sick served as script consultant. OEDIPUS THE KING was assistant produced by James Antoine, produced by Eric Sefton, assistant directed by Amy Salerno Hale, and directed by Robert Arnold.

Formed in 2007, Chatterbox Audio Theater creates fully soundscaped audio works for free streaming and download. Based in Memphis, the group also produces shows in Kansas City, MO. Chatterbox has released more than 60 shows to date, all of which are freely available through iTunes and through the group's website, www.chatterboxtheater.org.
