Tickets to the Maine premiere of Rock of Ages, produced by Penobscot Theatre Company, will go on sale to the general public, April 26, 2016. The hit Broadway musical will run from June 9 to July 2 at the historic Bangor Opera House with evening and afternoon performances. "This hot show is the perfect summer kick-off," said Bari Newport, producing artistic director. "Let's get this party started!"
Celebrating the glam bands of the 1980s, Rock of Ages is the story of Drew Boley (to be played by Ira Kramer), an aspiring rocker who dreams of a life as awesome as a Whitesnake video--or at least as successful as Stacee Jaxx's. Playing Jaxx, front man of the fictional band Arsenal, will be Andrew Crowe, who made his Penobscot Theatre Company debut in last fall's Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash and is now starring in Duck Hunter Shoots Angel. Crowe will also serve as music director of Rock of Ages, which features more than 20 hits from Journey, Styx, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi and more. Director and choreographer Michele Colvin looks forward to reuniting with Crowe, with whom she collaborated on Ring of Fire.
Rounding out the large cast will be musical theatre standouts Brianne Beck, Catherine Forthofer, Neil E. Graham, Daniel Kennedy, Ben Layman, Heather Libby, Grace Livingston, Bob Potts, Kristina Rex, Christie Robinson, Birdie Sawyer, Alekzander Sayers, Charisse Shields, and Dominick Varney. As members of "Arsenal," the hard-rocking band at the center of the show, will be Jeremy Shirland and Joshua Kovach playing guitar, Gaylen Smith on bass, Allison Bankston on the synthesizer, and Tom Libby on drums.
Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased online, starting April 26, atwww.penobscottheatre.org or by calling the box office at (207) 942-3333. Penobscot Theatre Company subscribers (current or upcoming season) will receive a $5 discount; no other discounts will apply. Students may purchase $15 rush tickets ten minutes before any given performance time, subject to available seating.
