Theater At Monmouth Presents PRIDE@PREJUDICE ImageJane Austen's most popular novel opens Theater at Monmouth's 2018 Summer Repertory Season adapted by Daniel Elihu Kramer as Pride@Prejudice. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy fall in love all over again-in Kramer's romantic deconstruction of Austen's classic. Playfully reinvented with modern-day characters literally stepping off the page to blog, google, and tweet, this homage to one of the world's most popular love stories is delivered with humor, wit, and just a little sass. Join us in Pemberley from Saturday, June 23rd at 7:30 p.m. through August 17 including matinee and evening performances on both weekdays and weekends

TAM celebrates the 205th anniversary of Austen's Pride and Prejudice with this whimsical and technologically savvy production. Kramer's play was hailed by the Daily Hampshire Gazette as "...a bright, flavorful take on love, life and English manners that matches Austen's to a T," sure to delight and inspire fresh interpretations of this staple of classic literature. Kramer skillfully embellishes his faithful adaptation with 21st-century pop culture references to unearth new revelations about Austen's classic romance. Director Janis Stevens writes, "Kramer's delightfully rich exploration of Austen's beloved work, accesses her novel and her letters as well as the wide range of pertinent public domain materials available on the internet-blogs, chat rooms, and discussion boards-adding an unexpected level of exuberance to the narrative."

Pride and Prejudice adaptations number in the hundreds including rigidly faithful depictions of the Bennet's and their plight to fanciful reworkings replete with zombies. Austen herself enjoyed playing with form. Her interest in delving into the lives of women and their romantic endeavors developed an entirely new approach to the English novel. Just as Austen's classic introduced modernity to the novel writing of her time, Kramer's play offers a fresh perspective with its inclusion of complimentary characters and contemporary allusions. Through Austen's letters to her niece, the adaptation reveals parallels between her life and Elizabeth Bennett's. Bob Goepfert of The Record News notes, "...Jane Austen enters the play so that we might better understand how art is sometimes the creation of life as we want it to be-rather than the way we live it." Pride@Prejudice expertly explores how artists create from their life experiences as much as their imaginations, and reveals how these hidden inspirations add deep and striking layers to their original sources.

Pride@Prejudice features Katie Croyle as Elizabeth Bennet; Marshall Taylor Thurman as Mr. Darcy; KP Powell as Mr. Bennet/ Mr. Bingley/ Sir William/ Footman/ Doctor/ Mr. Wickham/ Mr. Gardiner/ Colonel Fitzwilliam; Amber McNew as Jane Bennet/ Caroline Bingley/ Lydia/ Mary/ Lady Catherine/ Georgiana/ Jane Austen; and Bibi Mama as Mrs. Bennet/ Charlotte/ Mrs. Gardiner/ Miss de Bourgh.
