The Public Theatre Presents TIME STANDS STILL, 3/15-24

Time Stands Still makes its Maine premiere March 15-24, at The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn's Professional Theatre. Described as intelligent, witty and thought-provoking, Time Stands Still explores the romantic and professional relationship of a photojournalist and a war correspondent hoping to make a difference in the world by traveling to the hotspots of global conflict.

When an accident in the Middle East forces them to return to their Brooklyn apartment, this adventuresome couple must face their toughest challenge yet - re-entry into a traditional domestic life. But what's the more dangerous place - a war zone or a committed relationship? Is focusing on the happiness in their lives an act of courage, or a naïve denial of the suffering around them?

Upon their return, they soon discover their closest friend has fallen in love with a seemingly shallow young woman who appears to get her news from the Entertainment Network. Stunned by their intelligent colleague's choice of girlfriend and his unapologetic happiness, our adventuresome couple unexpectedly get their own perspective on life challenged by this naive young woman.

Director Christopher Schario promises that this timely, thought-provoking play is sure to inspire a lively discussion among theatergoers on their way home. "The wonderful thing about this play", says Schario, "is that it presents both sides of all arguments in an entertaining and powerful way, leaving the audience to make up their own mind".

Pulitzer Prize winning Playwright Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends, Collected Stories) provides a high-stakes context for what is essentially a powerful love story, exploring what happens when people in a relationship no longer want the same things. Times Stands Still enjoyed a successful run on Broadway starring Laura Linney, Eric Bogosian, Alicia Silverstone and Brain d'Arcy James.

Playing the globe-trotting couple Sarah and James will be Janet Mitchko and Evan Mueller. Janet has appeared in numerous productions at TPT, and was seen most recently in The Book Club Play. Evan is the Artistic Director of The Strange Sun Theater Company in NY, and has previously appeared at The Public Theatre in Indoor/Outdoor, The Nerd and Orphans, as well as with various theatre companies throughout the country. The role of their close friend Richard will be played by David Newer. David has appeared at The Public Theatre in Magnetic North, Rounding Third and Dinner with Friends. He has also appeared multiple times on Law and Order and is an acting teacher at the esteemed Bill Esper Studio in NY. The role of Mandy, Richard's love interest, will be played by Jessica Digiovanni. Jessica has appeared in New York at The Manhattan Theatre Club and can also be seen (and heard) in multiple television commercials.

The Brooklyn loft in which the play takes place is designed by Judy Staicer, with lighting by BArt Garvey and costumes by Annette Bourque.

Time Stands Still will be performed March 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24. Thurs/Fri 7:30pm, Sat 8pm, Sun 2pm, with an added matinee Sat March 23 @2pm.
